A World Of Tweets

Frog Design have come up with a nifty, real-time visualization of geolocated tweets around the world.

A World of Tweets is all about playing with geography and bits of information. Simply put, A World of Tweets shows you where people are tweeting at from the past hour. The more tweets there are from a specific region, the "hotter" or redder it becomes.

This continuous collection of Twitter statuses also allows for the presentation of other interesting visuals as well as statistical and historical data about the tweeting world we live in.

Through the activity of Twitter users it is possible to tailor a new map of the world that evolves during the day according to the time zones and the spreading of mobile technologies.

I Will Follow You Wherever You May Be

Two more features have been added to Twitter. Now you have a new option for the "following" page which enables you to view Tweets from the accounts a user follows, as well as a list of those accounts.

Here for example are some of the tweets from the 96 people I follow on the digiconsultant twitter account.

A quick way of accessing this for any account is to use the following address - https://twitter.com/#!digiconsultant/following - and change the digiconsultant twitter name to your own or the person you wish to view.

This feature allows you to quickly determine if you too wish to follow any of the people / accounts that your target 'twitterer' is following. Very handy for finding industry influencers and commentators you may wish to engage with.

The older 'Following' feature remains under what is now termed 'People'.

There is also a new 'stumble upon' button, top right, which allows you to randomly jump to the account of someone you follow.

Coming Soon - Realtime Analytics For Twitter

Twitter has announced that they will be releasing an analytics package in the fourth quarter of this year.

This is good news as measuring the power of the 'tweet' is an inexact science at best.

Reportedly the focus will be on twitter stream activity, as there are already excellent tools such as Klout and Twitalyzer to measure the general performance of any given account.

WebTrends says that the product will leverage algorithms similar to the Twitter Resonance concept in order to show users which tweets are spreading, who is influential in their network, and more.

The emphasis is on real time in order to help users make adjustments on the fly to their tactics.
It is being created by the team Twitter acquired in June, which created Trendly.

Twitter had previously identified analytics as a potential revenue stream so it is both surprising and pleasing to see that they will be rolling this out as a free service.

Possibly they will offer a more comprehensive and paying service for businesses in the future?

For marketers who have thus far found it difficult to justify time and budget spent on Twitter marketing this development is very good news indeed.
